Your Trend Pitch Is Missing One Crucial Thing

Hey all,
Greetings from the Maldives, where I’m spending a month, totalling my resort count here to nearly 50!
Trend pitches are my favorite kind of pitch. I’ve written countless stories from these ideas for dozens of publications, from Vogue to InsideHook.
Lately, I’ve been noticing one thing is lacking from the majority of trend pitches hitting my Inbox: proof.
Every trend pitch needs to have data or stats to back up the claim in order for an editor to consider it. These numbers can come from TikTok, SEO, Instagram or even better, verified studies.
Another helpful addition to your trend pitches is 3-5 examples of this trend. Your client may be the inspiration or frame for the pitch, but you should also provide several other examples (whether they be destinations, hotels, restaurants, etc). This will add validity to the claim and paint a clearer picture for the writer.
A very silly example of my ideal pitch and my ideal hotel trend:
Hey Katie,
Here is an idea for a trend we’re noticing in hotels worldwide. Thoughts?
Resorts around the world are ditching engraved coconuts and welcoming guests with a mini pizza party. XX study shows that pizza is the world’s most popular food, with 87% of people saying they eat it every week up by 24% from 2024. At XX hotel in Naples, Italy, guests are greeted with a piping hot pie with flavors, including diavola and margherita. Here is an image link.
These are some other examples of hotels offering unique pizza experiences
XX hotel in Tokyo gives guests a pizza omakase in their room.
XX hotel in Maldives does a floating pizza lunch in guest’s private pools.
XX hotel in New York offers free pizza every day from 3-5pm in the lobby.
Also, can someone please tell their clients to do this?! Now I want pizza.
