THESE Are The Kind Of Stories I'm Looking For
And upgrade to paid for next week's Ask Me Anything session!
Hey everyone,
Writing you from beautiful Nepal, where I was lucky enough to be the first journalist inside Shinta Mani Mustang!
But I’ll cut to the chase; my Inbox is getting stalllllle. It seems the only emails I’m getting lately are mass press releases announcing a new hotel restaurant, a new spa program or new seasonal packages.
Unfortunately, none of these emails are newsworthy enough for a dedicated article, and they go straight to the Trash.
What I’m Looking For Now
Targeted, unique, creative pitches. Easier said than done, I know. But I know I’m not chasing a unicorn here, and my inbox is open!
Take a minute to check my Instagram to see where I am or my Muckrack for recent stories so you know the kinds of articles I’ve been writing. Hopefully, a client will come to mind, and you can send me a pitch for anything new AND newsworthy. Please don’t send it if it’s one and not the other.
And there’s no PR email I love more than a creative roundup. Maybe it touches on something cultural happening, a major event or a pop-culture moment. Maybe it’s just fun and weird or completely clickable. Ideally, it checks multiple boxes.
Another thing to keep in mind is SEO. While I’m not tuned into the SEO goals of different publications, I know it’s become a major factor for commissioning articles. So, that’s something to keep in mind when you send roundups or creative features.
When you do send ideas, it’s even better if compile a list of all story and roundup ideas into one email. A few publicists have been doing this recently, and it’s a game-changer. It makes life so much easier and also makes me want to take the time to read through each pitch.
