The Surefire Way To Get Your Pitch Deleted + Call For Pitches
Besides addressing me as “Dear media.”
Hi from Taiwan!
It’s my first time visiting, and I’ve got to say, the vibes are good. Really good.
The people are incredibly friendly, the food is totally unique (Google QQ Taiwan), the tea culture is amazing, and there’s a LOT to see for such a small island. So if you’ve been waffling about a visit, book a trip now!
Is anyone else feeling this Shiba Inu? There’s been too much industry upheaval lately, from Islands moving to all-AI to INSIDER’s strike. But there are a lot of exciting things happening too, right?!?! (nervously laughs)—just look at Saveur!
Sorry, Your Pitch Is Getting Deleted
Journalists get hundreds of press releases a day. No, we don’t read every single one; we just delete them. The ones that get deleted immediately are the press releases blasts.
I know PR is just as crunched for time as we are and often are working under a lot more pressure, but email blasts are not the way. You’re just emailing into the void.
Instead, target the news to specific journalists who cover that beat or ones you work with frequently. Yes, I know this seems daunting, but I bet you’ll get better results for your clients. At the very least, put a personalized greeting on the email. Journalists really are looking to build good relationships; we don’t just want to be a number.

The Next AMA For Paid Subscribers!
Loved chatting with friends, old and new, during my last AMA.
We talked about editor upheaval, the best ways to pitch, who to pitch, where to place specific stories, etc. Basically, all things pitching.
The next session will be on Friday, June 19, at 10:30 am EST. So sign up now!
Private Sessions
We’re heading into the summer lull, so now is the perfect time to reevaluate and dig deeper into how to improve your pitches, how to get and STAY on journalists and editors’ radars and more.
If you’d like to chat privately or get into the specifics, I’m offering private consultation sessions.
Please get in touch if you’d like to organize a session to ask any and all questions.

I 100% agree re: email blasts. It's gotten to the point where my inbox is constantly flooded, it's overwhelming, and I delete probably 90% of what's coming my way because it isn't relevant to me.
