Hey all,
Sorry, I’ve been a bit MIA! The last few weeks have simultaneously been some of the most Zen and hectic of my life.
I spent a week at Ananda in the Himalayas, India’s leading wellness retreat doing a full-body detox program, so I decided to do a bit of a digital one as well.
Then, I hopped on a red-eye to Thailand to celebrate Songkran, the Thai new year, and basically the world’s largest water fight.
Really wish Substack would allow videos because this picture just doesn’t do Songkran justice…
During my meditation and yoga sessions in India, the yogis talked a lot about gratitude and giving thanks. It got me thinking that in our profession, we don’t say thank you enough.
Journalists, myself included, often complain when PR doesn’t say thank you after you’ve worked together to include a client in coverage. Once an article about a hotel, restaurant or destination is live, a quick thank you isn’t just professional; it goes a long way towards building relationships with writers. Yup, we can be pretty petty and have memories like elephants.
But I’m sure we’re often just as bad. Writers, remember to always thank PR for sending images, answering questions or arranging a press trip, and if you don’t, start! It’s just good manners, and it’s also part of building good relationships, which is how this whole thing works, right?!
Speaking Of Thanks…

This is a new offering, but so far, I’ve loved doing private sessions with PR to talk about everything from press trip best practices to Asia tips to individual pitches.
Please get in touch if you’d like to organize a session to ask any and all travel and food journalism questions.
