Final Call For My First-Ever AMA Tomorrow!
And the sure way to get you and your client blacklisted.
Hey there,
There’s a lot of upheaval in the industry right now, massive layoffs, publications folding, Chat GPT, budgets slashed and nearly every top-tier backlogged with content.
It’s easy to complain, but as I type this, I’m looking out over Victoria Harbour with sweeping views of Hong Kong from the Rosewood while on assignment. These last few months, I’ve often pinched myself over incredible experiences, from hiking Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan to eating 16 courses at noma Kyoto. So while it seems like things are getting harder and harder, I’m feeling pretty damn lucky.
I Can’t Believe I Have To Type This…
Do not send journalists plagiarized quotes.
Yeah, I know, it seems like a no-brainer, right? But lately, I’ve been getting quotes that have been copied from press releases or other articles. Luckily I run my articles through a plagiarism checker, so I was able to catch them before I sent them to my editor, but it could have been extremely damaging.
If you want to send journalists a stock quote, ask beforehand or make it very clear that it is a stock quote when you send it over. And when your clients send you quotes, double-check that they are not copying and pasting their answers from other interviews.
It’s not only career-damaging for a journalist, but it is a surefire way to irreparably damage any relationship with you and your client.
Last Chance For Tomorrow’s AMA!
The first AMA Zoom session for paid subscribers will be at 10:30 am EST! So, if you haven’t already upgraded to become a paid subscriber, it’s your last chance.
We’ll be talking about how to get your pitches seen and actually read by journalists, press trip no-nos, updates on who is actually commissioning right now and anything else you’ve been wondering.
Can’t wait!
1:1
I am still offering private 1:1 consultations for subscribers who prefer to keep their questions private and dive a little deeper into the nitty-gritty of the industry.
Please get in touch if you’d like to organize a session to ask any and all questions.
