Hey everyone,
I’m writing you from Hoi An, Vietnam, where it’s a brain-melting 110 degrees every day. Luckily, the coconut coffees help!
PR 101?!?
I was working on a story this week and reached out to a PR I’ve worked with before to get some pretty basic information quickly. Instead, I got a response that didn’t answer my question, and I had to follow up at least three times before I got accurate info.
It was hot as hell, and I was frustrated, so I tweeted, and apparently, I’m not the only one who has experienced this recently…

Thanks Elon, for getting rid of quote embeds on Substack!
But let’s be real, what work obligation is more pressing than providing journalists with information on your client by their deadline? That is literally PR 101. So when the basics become difficult to secure, journos really feel f*cked. At the very least, be transparent about what is happening, why you can’t get back to us right now and maybe just pass us on to a colleague who can help. Please and thank you.
More Valuable Tweet Threads!
My fellow freelance writers inspired a few really great tweet threads for both PR and journos, so I saved them to share in my new free newsletter. Click below…

Time-Sensitive Call For Pitches
Food & Wine - due Tuesday, August 22
Looking for wild, very over-the-top dining requests from guests at hotels/resorts around the world.
Think of things like requesting caviar on every dish, demanding an ingredient be flown in, requesting a Michelin star chef come cook for them, and only eating food items that match their outfit color.
Please email klockhart14@gmail ASAP to be included.
